REPORT OF THE NEW YORK CITY

New York City is located on the eastern coast of the United States about 1000 miles north of Florida and 200 miles South of Boston. It is situated at the mouth of the Hudson River, and is divided into five districts called boroughs. Long Island stretches almost 100 miles to the east of New York City and the state of New Jersey lies just across the Hudson River to the west. The "Big Apple", as the city is often called, is the largest city in the US with over 7 million residents. It is filled with a diverse mixture of inhabitants including immigrants from many countries.

Some of its many neighborhoods, such as Chinatown, Little Italy, and Spanish Harlem reflect the rich ethnic heritages of the resident's original homelands.

Manhattan borough, the business and commercial center of New York City, is situated on a large island in the middle of the Hudson River. Just south of it, across the main harbor, lies the borough of Staten Island, a large residential community. Across the East River branch of the Hudson, the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens are situated on the western tip of Long Island.

The borough of Bronx is on the mainland to the north. New Jersey lies across the Hudson to the west

Navigation in Manhattan is not difficult as long as you remember compass directions and use the proper terminology. Subways and Busses go "uptown" when heading north to the higher numbered streets and go "downtown" when heading south. They go to the "East Side" or the "West Side" when crossing the island. Building Numbers, especially on the avenues, often do not follow a logical pattern. When asking directions, always try to specify the nearest intersection of streets and avenues. For example: "On Broadway, near 42nd Street" or "near Third and fifty fourth".

Central Park is a well-known oasis in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the big city. New Yorkers and visitors are drawn to the park to relax, play and take in the landscaped surroundings

BROKLYN, QUEENS, THE BRONX AN STATEN ISLANDA ARE BEDROOM COMUMUNITIES
Brooklyn is across the East River on the southwestern tip of Long Island. It is accessible via bridge or tunnel. This borough is nearly four times as large as Manhattan Island and has a population of about four million. It is one of the primary bedroom communities for New York City. Unlike Manhattan, there are few tall buildings in Brooklyn. Typically, the tree-lined streets are filled with brownstone townhouses and small apartment buildings. There are very few hotels in Brooklyn, but those few offer a quiet alternative to the noisy hectic streets of Manhattan. Coney Island Beach and Amusement park are located along the southern shore and John F. Kennedy Airport lies just east of Brooklyn

Queens is north of Brooklyn on the tip of Long Island. It is also a residential community with many high-rise apartment complexes. LaGuardia airport, Shea Stadium and the crumbling ruins of the old World's Fair are located there. There are a few hotels near the airport. The Bronx is another mainly residential community almost due north of Manhattan on the mainland. The large and impressive Bronx Zoo is located there.
Staten Island is due south of Manhattan across the main harbor basin. It is most easily reached via the Staten Island ferry from Battery Park on the southern tip of Manhattan. The ferry ride offers spectacular views of the New York skyline and the Statue of Liberty and is absolutely free for all pedestrians. Staten Island has a small town atmosphere with many single-family homes.

THREE AIRPORTS SERVE NEW YORK CITY
There are three major airports near New York City. John F Kennedy (JFK) airport is on Long Island about 12 miles east of Manhattan. LaGuardia is in Queens about 6 miles from downtown and Newark airport is across the Hudson river in New Jersey about 12 miles to the southwest of the city. Ready access is available from each airport via taxi or bus. Public transportation is excellent in New York City. Busses, subway trains and taxis provide the most convenient means of transportation. New York City is one of the few cities in the USA with adequate train service. Commuter trains cover most of the nearby communities and neighboring states. Longer distance passenger trains travel the east coast corridor and go to many major cities across the country.

Alcalá de Henares

Alcalá de Henares.... a little bit of history... I wish I were there!!!

Alcalá de Henares is a small city located in the middle of the Iberian Peninsula at the southwest of Europe. It is also located in the oriental sector of the Community of Madrid, next to the Henares river.

Romans used to name Alcalá de Henares as the Complutum city; it also became the Episcopal See at the Visigoth period. The city was destroyed (1.000 AC) and rebuilt (1.083) by the Muslims who constructed an alcazar that gave the modern name of the city. In 1348, the king Alfsonso XI, the Austere, created Alcalá.

In 1498, Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros founded the University of Alcalá de Henares. This university has become one of the most important superior learning places in Spain.

In 1836, the University was moved to Madrid, but nowadays there are two extensions, the University Complutense of Madrid and the University of Alcalá de Henares.

Alcalá is also knows for its writers and monarchs. Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, the famous author of “El Quijote de la Mancha” was born there.

The city has amazing monuments such as the magisterial church, The Monastery of Saint Bernardo, the house-museum of Cervantes, the Antezana hospital, or the building of the University (San Ildefonso).

The university campus and the downtown of Alcalá de Henares were declared World Heritage Site in 1998.

According with the last census from 2001, its population is 176.434 habitants.

South Africa

South africa its a beutifull country, which has a vast variety of cultures. Its located in the South of the African Continent and the currency its the Rand.

They have many officials lenguages but not everybody speak them. The mayority people are black but there are also white people.

The immigration from Europe has contributed to the history of this country, thats why its very interesting.

There are a lot of tourits because there are many places to visit and have a great time, like going to safari to see wild animals, or going t the beaches, which are really nice.

The weather its hot, like savahana, and there few months which are extremelly hot, and others that always rain.

The government is formed in the lower house, and the leader of the majority party in the National Assembly is the President.

There are almost a thousand agricultural cooperatives and agribusinesses throughout the country, and agricultural exports have constituted 8% of South Africa's total exports for the past five years.

South African cuisine is heavily meat-based.

I honestly recommend you to visit this country or know about it , its lovely, but i dont recommend you going shopping bacause its really expensive for us.

Argentina

Argentina is a beautiful country located at the south east of South America. The capital is Buenos Aires. The currency is peso argentino.

Argentina is well known for cattle's skin, and delicious food, meet and pastry. As well as their beautiful places and dances. The most popular dance is tango that mixes the melancholy of their lyrics with the sensual dance, that shows the elegance and warmth or their people.

The art museums, their history, restaurants, pubs and night clubs make an experience you'll never forget.

global warming

I think global warming is caused by burning oil and coal produces pollution CO2 gases (carbon dioxide). It helps retain heat in the atmosphere. These gases trap the sun’s heat and produce effects in the atmosphere and the greenhouse, such us: an increase in global temperatures, floods and hurricanes, destruction of forests and the ozone layer.
The ozone layer is an accumulation of ozone in the stratosphere
We should have to protect the ozone layer because it vital to the life on the Earth. It filters harmful ultraviolet radiation from the sun and stops it from damaging life on the earth; but today the layer had thinned everywhere from that scientists found a hole in the layer over the Antarctic in the 1980s
As you can see 2007 is the warmest year in the record.
We should limit the use of CFC chemicals, such as: Cloroflouro-carbons, warming aerosols, plastics, some fertilizers because destroy the layer without the ozone layer long exposure to ultraviolet rays will cause cataracts and skin cancer in the people, but the biggest consequence is the global warming in the world, because threatens life on our planet Earth
The effect of this global warming are floods in low lands such as Pacific Islands, high temperatures melt the polar ice caps. Then sea levels worldwide rise. Also global warming causes strong hurricanes on coasts
Nowadays we should advice our students about ways of protecting the environment.
The Earth Summit in Brazil in1992 decided to limit CO2 emissions from vehicles and industry. People should limit carbon dioxide emissions from vehicles and industry. It is essential to limit these emissions because carbon dioxide remains in the atmosphere for many decades. People should use energy sources that do not produce carbon dioxide
We should not fell trees. It causes erosion.
We should not burn vegetation. Forest fires destroy the habitat of small animals and plants
We should limit the use of CFC chemicals, such as: Cloroflouro-carbons, warming aerosols, plastics, some fertilizers, deodorants. Use roll-on or solid bar deodorants and unleaded petrol because destroy the layer without the ozone layer long exposure to ultraviolet rays will cause cataracts and skin cancer in the people, but the biggest consequence is the global warming in the world, because threatens life on our planet Earth

Turkey

Turkey

(Turkish: Türkiye), known officially as the Republic of Turkey (Türkiye Cumhuriyeti (help·info)), is a Eurasian country that stretches across the Anatolian peninsula in southwest Asia and the Balkan region of southeastern Europe.

The capital city of Turkey is Ankara. The territory of Turkey is subdivided into 81 provinces for administrative purposes. The provinces are organized into 7 regions for census purposes; however, they do not represent an administrative structure. Each province is divided into districts, for a total of 923 districts.

Education is compulsory and free from ages 6 to 15. The literacy rate is 95.3% for men and 79.6% for women, for an overall average of 87.4%. This low figure is mainly due to prevailing feudal attitudes against women in the Arab- and Kurdish-inhabited southeastern provinces of the country

Turkey has a very diverse culture that is a blend of various elements of the Oğuz Turkic and Anatolian, Ottoman which was itself a continuation of both Greco-Roman and Islamic cultures, and Western culture and traditions which started with the Westernization of the Ottoman Empire and continues today. This mix is a result of the encounter of Turks and their culture with those of the peoples who were in their path during their migration from Central Asia to the West.[92][93] As Turkey successfully transformed from the religion-based former Ottoman Empire into a modern nation-state with a very strong separation of state and religion, an increase in the methods of artistic expression followed. During the first years of the republic, the government invested a large amount of resources into the fine arts, such as museums, theatres, and architecture. Because of different historical factors playing an important role in defining the modern Turkish identity.

COLOMBIA

In 1499, Colombia was discovered by Alonso de Ojeda. Its official name is Republic of Colombia. Its capital is Bogotá. It is the biggest city in Colombia. Colombia has forty-two millons of population. There are other important cities for example, Meddellín, Cali, Barranquilla, Cartagena, Manizales, Pastos, etc.

In addition, Colombia has an impotant and international airport in Bogotá. Its name is El Dorado. It is the one of most expensive in Latin América.

Spanish is the official language but, there are eighty indigenous language such as Wayúu, Paez, Guambiano and Embera while, in San Andres archipelago the raizal population speak English.

In Colombia 95% of the population are Catholic. However, 1 % of Colombians use indigenous religions and other 1% practice Islam, buddhism, Judaism and Hinduism.

Colombia is considerate the fourth largets country in South América and the third most popular country in Latin América. Thus, many people visit Colombia On Christmas, The In dependence of Colombia, Cali Fair, The Barranquilla Carnival and the Flower Festival

Also, this country is characterized by common earthquake.

Colombia exports petroleum, coal and coffe. As a result, mowadays this country is the biggest producer and exporter of delicious coffe.

On the other hand, Colombia has a serious problem for instance, paramalitary groups, guerrilla insurgents and drug traffic. These problems have influenced in the policy, social and economic structure. Therefore, in 1990 The President Andrés Pastrana made a plan is called Plan Colombia to finish the conflict. However, there is a problem in this plan it is aerial fumigations to eradicate coca because fumigations are bad to health and enviroment.

Finally, I like Colombia becuse it has beautiful and wonderful churches, buildings, etc. by architecture and people are friendly.

CUBA

CUBA

When spaniard came to América in XVI century, almost exterminated to indians from Cuba.
In 1898 the United States of America, took the island until 1902 when Cuba was independent.
But in 1959 when Fulgencio Batista was the president, Fidel Castro, Che Guevara and others made the Cuban Revolution and overthrew to Batista.
Fidel Castro commanded the Island, he took the communist system in Cuba and that political made to USA the principal opposer of Castro.

However Cuba is one of the most important places in America.
The principal commercial activity is Turism. The cigars from the island are the most apreciated
in the world.
In Cuba there is not illiteracy, more than 85% of its population has a middle superior level and it has most voluntary doctors helping poor people around the world.

Cuba is an special country, with wonderful beaches, very kind people, great salsa music, good artists, its famous rum, an agreeable climate and its menu "Moros y Cristianos".
You must visit it!!!

China Tourism

China Tourism
The China Popular Republic is a state situated at the east of Asia, the most inhabited of the world, it has more than 1300 million people, and it is the 4th in territorial extension after Russia, Canada and USA.
The most important cities are: Pekín, Shanghai, and Hong Kong.
The China civilization history could be from 5000 years ago. There are many historic monuments distributed over 9,6 millions km2. That are ruins of the millenary culture like: Great Wall, wich the most ancient part is about 2000 years old; The Forbiden Palace, The Imperial Palace the greatest oin the world; The Terracota Warriors of First Emperor, etc.
This enormous country land has many nature sceneries like: Three divitions (throats) of the Yangtze River or the Silk Route.
To 2005 year, China has 31 places proclaimed by UNESCO, Human Patrimony. And that year, more than 46,80 million foreign tourists visited China
For the european tourists, might be the most impressive is the distance between actual China reality and the western news image, besides of the socio-cultural differences that feel on the travel. This ancient country can only be enjoyed by its modernization way, there you can feel the millenary civilization and the modern easiness.
In 2005 year, about 46,8 million tourists visited China, for that it’s in 4th place in the world. In this same year, the economic income for China International tourism was USD29,296 million
The Tourism World Organization said: in 2020, China will be the first worldwide tourist destination.

think that burning oil and coal affect the greenhouse effect, in special the vehicles and factories produce carbon dioxide or CO2, use of chemicals such as aerosols, deodorants, plastics, sprays, pollution of the water.
This destroy the ozone layer, in 1992 the scientists in the world found a big hole over the antarctict into the layer.
Nowadays, it is caused alot of floods and hurricans, melt in the ice glacials, in the people along exposure to the sun rays produce catarats and cancer in the skin as consequence in the Earth had been produced the global warming.
We should teach and advice our students protect the planet. We should use deodorants on rollon, people should not fall and destroy the forest, they shoud burn the vejetation.
In Brazil in the Summit of presidents in 1998 had decided that people should limit the uses of the products that produces CO2

Global Warming

The global warming is caused by Industrial pollution, deforestation, the gas emissions by factories and the automobiles, radioactive products and nuclear waste (Military Industry). This a very serious problem because the earth runs the risk of begin destroyed.

Since the Industrial Revolution, factories began to carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere. The increased CO2 in the atmosphere warms the Earth's surface and leads to melting of ice near the poles, for this reason many animal species will be extinction, for example penguins and polar bears.

Global temperatures on both land and sea have increased by 0.75 °C relative to the period 1860–1900, according to the Instrumental Temperature Record. The earth climate has changed production negative effects for agriculture and some species of South American frogs have disappeared. In Europe during 2005 and 2006 had very hot summers and extremely cold winters as consequence of it some people, who lived in the streets died.

In next years there will have hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, a bigger volcanic activity, as consequence of the global warning, more virulent illnesses will also appear. Wallestein compare these negative effects like four horsemen of the apocalypse: war, illnesses, death and destruction.

The our Planet future is not encouraging, therefore I think that everyone should make something to avoid the contamination and especially the owners of the transnational companies, which contaminate the earth, have the moral obligation to stop this pollution and to salve the planet life, because the life is more important than the money.

A REPORT ON GLOBAL WARNING

The global warning is caussed by industrial pollution of bigs factorias and the cars,
this is a big problems because the erth runs thi risk of begins destroyed
The our Plannet future is not so encourage, therefore I think to avoid the contamination and especially the owners of the transnational companies, wish contaminate the earth, have the moral obligation to stop this pollution and to salve the planet life, because the life is more important than the money.

We are all personally responsible for releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels for transportation (driving and flying) and home energy (electricity, heating, and cooling). This leads to global warming, which is destroying Earth's biodiversity and ecosystems.

We have work directly with volunteer youth groups and can help you be part of the solution to global warming.
Our volunteer-based programs allow us to plant young and other native trees at a size where they can quickly mature into large adult trees and become part of the rainforest. We have had great success in engaging youth volunteers from surrounding villages in these tree-planting projects, which helps us keep costs to an absolute minimum. Tropical trees planted only a few years ago are now over 20 ft. tall!
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that the average American releases 30,000 pounds of carbon dioxide each year, simply through personal transportation and home energy needs. to calculate your annual releases of carbon
It is estimated that a single tropical tree can utilize about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide over its lifetime (i.e., 50 pounds per year over 40 years).
This means that planting 15 trees each year can offset your carbon dioxide releases for the rest of your life.
Because we rely exclusively on youth volunteers for the labor of planting and tending the trees, we are able to replant former

include mentoring youth, providing volunteer supplies and support, and facilitating experiential environmental education. We have applied absolutely 0% of donations toward administration/overhead or fundraising since we were established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2000. This means that your full donation is applied toward the programs that form the basis of our nonprofit status -- not toward anything else.

Solutions: Reduce your use of fósil fuels, protecto raiforests as carbon storehorses an help plant tropical trees in coutries where the raifores is being lost.
Global Warming

Global warming is a serious problem for the world. Studies show many species of plants and animals could be danger of extinction because of the increase in greenhouse gases. The gases create high temperature around the world. Consequently, people are very scared, but dont know that Carbon dioxide and methane are the biggest causes of global warming.

The world began to see the effects of greenhouse gases in the begining of Industrial Revolution. The main gases which affected the world negativly is Carbon dioxide.Others factorswhich contributed to global warming was the burnt of oil and wood today this factor still exist and increase rapidly contributing to the growth of global warming.
The second reason for global warming in the world is methane that is produced by cattle dung.
Moreover, global warming has many effects, for instance, health.high temperatures increase respiratory problems and lung diseases. Also, in poor cities and countries global warming contributes to the increase of infectious diseases for example malaria, yellow fever and different virus.
Today the people of the world are trying to decrease greenhouse gases. In 1997 in Japon about 141 countries made an agreement to reduce the amounts of greenhouse gases. The agreement is called Kyoto.
In conclusion, people must be more aware about global warming. Therefore, we must research our own strategies to reduce the use of Carbon dioxide and other gases.
Global Warming

Everybody is responsable for global warming, if we continue sending carbon dioxine to the atmosphere, we are going to have terrible problems to survive on the earth.
- The oceans are going to get bigger.
- Terrible inundatios.
- The snowies are disappearing.
- The next World War will be for water.
- A lot of species won`t exist.
- Heat will be unbearable.

Now we must to do little but important things to help to our enviroment:
- Recicly
- To take showers instead to take a bath
- Travel by bike or walking
- Unplug the electrical machines.
- Teach to our children to love Nature.

Global heating

Global heating
In 1896 Svante Arrhenius Swedish chemist suggested that carbon dioxide being in the atmosphere by the industrial civilisation could heat the surface of the Earth. Bioligists who dealt with the life of the ocean said that it wasn’t possible. Sometimes some of them suggested that they should return to the problem.
Every spring the plants burst into flowers and take up carbon dioxide. Every au tumn with the withdrawal of the flora carbon dioxide gets back to the air. Putting together the series of the different years we can receive a lifting curve. Every year a growing quantity of carbon dioxide gets into the atmosphere and at the end of the in-and out breathing series of the plants more and more remain in the air. Keeling-curve had clearly proved what people just wondered about up till then that by human activity carbon dioxide being let go into the air doesn’t absorb in the oceans and in the flora but it accumulates year-after-year in the atmosphere of the Earth: man changes the composition of the atmosphere.
Connection between the atmospheric carbon dioxide content and the temperature
According to theoretical considerations, calculations and experiments in relation with this matter, the present total atmospheric carbon dioxide content causes approximately 7 degrees higher temperature on the surface. This amount has increased with almost one-third in the last 150 years. A research team had analysed a millions of date of the part 50 million years and came to the conclusion that the oceans’ water also became warmer under the surface as far as 300 metres. Since the heat capacity of the water much higher than the air, therefore the water of the ocean took up this surplus. Obviously, a balance has been developing between the water and the air about it, so, in a billowy process this surplus will get loch from the ocean to the air. The warmer water steams are quicker that’s why on one hand more wetness gets into the air and that causes more rain, on the other hand quicker air lifting generates more powerful winds and steams and that last warmer air has greater energy, therefore it is more vehement mobile changeable.
Oceans are Warming
There are two points of evidence indicating that oceans are warming: One is that precipitation is increasing; and the other is that ice is melting over oceans more than over land.
The oceans have a heat capacity 1,000 times that of the atmosphere. This means the air cannot easily heat the oceans, but oceans can easily heat the air. The atmosphere would have to heat a lot, before it could heat the oceans a little; yet the opposite is occurring. The atmosphere is only said to have warmed 0.6°C in recent times.
Ice is obviously melting rapidly, but primarily over oceans. In localized areas, there is warming over land which is melting showpiece glaciers and northern tundra. But where it really matters, over Antarctica, ice is thickening. Over Greenland both thickening and melting of ice is occurring, but Greenland is small, and it's climate is influenced by an ocean current called the Gulf Stream.
The ultimate test of whether the oceans or atmosphere is heating more is precipitation, and it is increasing. If the atmosphere were heating more than the oceans, there would be less precipitation, because warmer air holds more moisture. If the oceans are heating more than the air, more precipitation occurs, because evaporation increases, while there is less change in the amount of moisture the air will hold.
Because of the increase in precipitation, ice is thickening over land at Antarctica and Greenland, as shown by satellites which use radar to measure thickness of ice.

global warming

Althought the video we saw on the last class was chocking, I think we can not change what is done, but we can help to stop damaging our planet by educating our childrens and trying to walk instead of using the car and saving electricity.

We live in a privilege place with natural sources specially water, mountains, plants and animals. As we are so lucky to live in this place we have to learn how to preserve it

An inappropriate truth….

I guess that is not the only inappropriate truth that we already know…. We have to do something about it NOW! We should reconsider the stupid and unconscious things we always do against the environment… it’s not fair for the next generation, they are going to pay our mistakes (and this one is extremely huge)

Living without clean water or breathing polluted air must be harmful… there will be new illnesses and of course new treatments, but that’s not the solution! We need to do something now: recycling garbage, paper, or glass are some ways to help our planet, for example!

Help me with more ideas…
