In 1499, Colombia was discovered by Alonso de Ojeda. Its official name is Republic of Colombia. Its capital is Bogotá. It is the biggest city in Colombia. Colombia has forty-two millons of population. There are other important cities for example, Meddellín, Cali, Barranquilla, Cartagena, Manizales, Pastos, etc.
In addition, Colombia has an impotant and international airport in Bogotá. Its name is El Dorado. It is the one of most expensive in Latin América.
Spanish is the official language but, there are eighty indigenous language such as Wayúu, Paez, Guambiano and Embera while, in San Andres archipelago the raizal population speak English.
In Colombia 95% of the population are Catholic.However, 1 % of Colombians use indigenous religions and other 1% practice Islam, buddhism, Judaism and Hinduism.
Colombia is considerate the fourth largets country in South América and the third most popular country in Latin América. Thus, many people visit Colombia On Christmas, The In dependence of Colombia, Cali Fair, The Barranquilla Carnival and the Flower Festival
Also, this country is characterized by common earthquake.
Colombia exports petroleum, coal and coffe. As a result, mowadays this country is the biggest producer and exporter of delicious coffe.
On the other hand, Colombia has a serious problem for instance, paramalitary groups, guerrilla insurgents and drug traffic. These problems have influenced in the policy, social and economic structure. Therefore, in 1990 The President Andrés Pastrana made a plan is called Plan Colombia to finish the conflict. However, there is a problem in this plan it is aerial fumigations to eradicate coca because fumigations are bad to health and enviroment.
Finally, I like Colombia becuse it has beautiful and wonderful churches, buildings, etc. by architecture and people are friendly.
